Industry days

The Industry Days take place during the FIPADOC International Documentary Festival and welcome all professionals of the documentary sector, producers, directors, distributors, broadcasters, funders etc. They provide international and French industry with unique opportunities to meet and ignite new collaborations, pitch and fund new projects.
The Industry Days are also designed as a think tank about the future of the documentary sector, a reactor for ideas and impulses.

Industry Days 2020 program

The Industry Days - these are about 40 sessions in 4 days, a productive mix,
stressless and efficient. There are “trails” for directors, “paths” for producers,
“pit stops” for commissioning editors and sales agents… making it easy to
navigate a rich and inspiring program. Highlights this year are the Swedish
Focus, an enhanced collaboration with Spain and our two new labs for digital
experiences and impact.

SUCCESSFUL OUTREACH - A CASE STUDY: “CITIZEN EUROPE”

The greek-french-irish-bulgarian coproduction “Citizen Europe” is a perfect
case study of a cross-platform and Europe wide distribution. It combined
broadcast on numerous tv networks, theatrical release in Ireland, limited
theatrical releases through the Moving Docs program with over 60 screenings followed by Q&As across Europe and the streaming in 6 languages on the
ARTE Europe vod platform. Backed by an outstanding marketing campaign,“Citizen Europe” is an inspiring success.

HOW DID I BECOME AN IMPACT PRODUCER BY NECESSITY...AND
CONTINUED BY PASSION. A CASE STUDY.

From “Bananas!” to “Push” (which is in the selection of FIPADOC) Swedish
director Fredrik Gertten and producer Margarete Jangaard have created
several documentaries with a strong outreach and impact strategy. They will
tell us their rollercoaster story full of slippery banana peels, lawyers and
members of parliament, bikes and cars and cities beyond gentrification.

HOW TO COPRODUCE WITH SWEDEN AND FRANCE

How to coproduce with Sweden and - by extension - with the scandinavian
countries? How to coproduce with France? A hands on session with the

The International Pitch of FIPADOC will present 15 international projects to a
distinguished panel of decision makers and other professionals with the
purpose of finding new partners.The selected projects are ambitious, eclectic in
their subjects and forms and with high potential for international collaboration.
Among them, 4 projects have been spotted by FIPADOC at partner forums
and markets.

A foreign project and a french project will be awarded by a jury with an in-kind
postproduction award worth 5,000 € each by our partner Saya.

Curated by INA and FIPADOC, the SMART LAB is an incubator of digital projects (interactives, web series, augmented and virtual reality…) in early
stage of development. The lab will nurture six author-producer teams in the
first of their project design and let them profit from INA’s expertise in
professional training and digital know-how.
At the end of the SMART LAB one project will receive an INA-grant for its
quality, originality and coherence in terms of used technologies with
storytelling as an incentive for its further development.

Documentaries are often challenging society by being a driving force for
change. How can you concile artistic excellence, impact ambition, outreach
quality and financing? FIPADOC’s IMPACT LAB is a workhop designed for
producer-author teams aiming at an impact campaign and strategy with their
documentary project.
Who are the right partners for a specific project? Who can you work with?
NGOs, foundations and philanthropists?
What is the legal framework regarding sponsorship? What role can play
crowdfunding? How to design an impact strategy? Who is the target
audience? Which festivals, distribution networks, communities to reach out to

How does music work (or not) in documentary filmmaking? How can
composers and directors find a common language for the creative benefit of
their collaboration? What is the best workflow between them?
Two case studies proposed by the Civil Society of Multimedia Authors
(La SCAM) and the Society of Authors, Composers, and Publishers (Sacem).
Both organisations are supporting the creation of original music scores for
documentaries with a writing bursary for composers attached to projects those
authors have received a writing grant on their end.

THE GARRD, A GUILD IS BORN! BUT WHAT FOR?

features, has been created last September with the goal to have a say about
the future of an impoverished profession, endangered by budget cuts and a
