À Téhéran, après avoir purgé sa peine de prison pour l’assassinat de son mari violent, Tahereh doit négocier avec sa belle-famille. Celle-ci peut, selon la loi islamique iranienne, décider de son sort : exécution ou pardon moyennant une compensation financière. Une militante contre la peine de mort aide à la médiation.
