Les États-Unis lancent alors le projet Manhattan, dirigé par Groves et Oppenheimer. En 1945, deux bombes atomiques ravagent Hiroshima et Nagasaki et posent la question vertigineuse : victoire décisive ou point de non-retour pour l’humanité ?
