Z bratem

Emerging filmmaker Mattias Bavré graduated in 2021 with his film Z Bratem (‘With My Brother’) from KASK School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium, which won the Grand Prix for Best Belgian Student Short at Film Fest Ghent. Making this short documentary about two mentally disabled brothers living in an isolated facility in Poland not only was a way to discover his Polish roots, but also to define his approach to filmmaking. He believes that a humble stance towards his subjects and their environment, in which respectful listening and observing are essential, enables him to evoke their (inner) world. Mattias is currently shooting his first feature documentary, Zlata, with the gracious support of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) and the Belgian Tax Shelter. A deal with public broadcaster VRT/Canvas is in the pipeline.
