How to Download a Forest
Réalisation
Annette JACOB
The film questions the endlessness of gathering knowledge about the natural world and how it alters when we transplant it into digital systems. Moving through the spaces of herbariums and expedition sites in Portugal, it reveals the Sisyphean task of data collection. Every day, new information is collected, continually expanding the scope of knowledge.

Annette Jacob is a filmmaker from India. Over the years her projects have converged from three directions — ecological evidence, grief, archives — towards a single point, data. It’s collection, maintenance, erosion, rebuilding, shape-shifting. Her work critically examines the evolution of life into data. A graduate of DocNomads Masters Programme, her multidisciplinary work shape shifts between independent documentaries, video journalism, personal essays and animation.
