I Believe the Portrait Saved Me

The painter Skender Muja attempted to flee Kosovo, like many members of the Albanian minority, during the war in Yugoslavia in 1999. Captured, he was detained in a center where terror reigned and where he faced an uncertain fate. He owed his salvation solely to his talent as an artist.
