Kounachir, which stands 14 km north of the coast of Japan, is one of the two main islands of the Kurile archipelago, annexed in 1945 by the USSR. A year later, after a short period of cohabitation, the 17,000 Japanese living in this territory were massively deported. The peace agreement has still not been signed between the two countries... since the Second World War.

Born in 1956 in Minsk.He studied history at the Belarus Stade university.
Worked at Belarusfilm as an assistant director ( 1978 – 1992 ).
He finished courses for assistant and second unit directors at VGIK (Moscow).
In 1992 he started to play and stage performances at French groups.
In 2002 he debuted in documentary cinema. Made films for French TV.
Since 1992 works in France and Russia, produces documentaries.
