Éric Guéret is a French documentary filmmaker. Since 1992, he has been making films on social and environmental issues. He practices an immersive documentary cinema, sharing the daily life of those he films for very long periods of time, generally lasting from six months to a year and a half. For Eric Guéret, this is the time needed to tell the story of these struggles in their reality. He spends six months with the women on the street, every night. A year with the farmer Paul François who was converting his farm to organic farming. And a year and a half with the Greenpeace activists or the Ascoval steelworkers. Most of his films tell of struggles, in all their forms: the struggle of the Ascoval workers to keep their jobs, the struggle of the victims of 13 November to rebuild their lives, the struggle of farmers to switch to organic farming. At the heart of his cinematographic choices is always the notion of utility.
