In his tower-block apartment in Belfast’s New Lodge district, Joe reenacts memories from his childhood amidst the “Troubles”, the years of armed conflict that tore Northern Ireland apart from the 1960s to 1998 and wreaked particular havoc in this Catholic neighborhood. Jolene, Sean, Angie and other neighbors join him in revisiting their collective memory.

Alessandra Celesia was born in Italy and lives between Paris and Belfast. After studying literature and theatre, she began her career in the performing arts. She directed her first film, Loin (Luntano), in 2006. Since then, she has directed Le Libraire de Belfast (2011, ARTE, Visions du Réel, Best Film and Audience Award at the Festival dei Popoli), Mirage à l'Italienne (2013 Cinéma du Réel), Les Miracles ont le goût du ciel (2017 Locarno) and La Mécanique des choses (2023 ARTE/ZDF, Turin International Film Festival).
