Ruth is a teenager in Sudan when her mother gives her a medallion with a portrait of Nefertiti. It symbolizes her mother's beauty, strength and suffering under the dictatorial communist regime that imprisoned her. This object recounts decades of tyranny and civil war.

Ruth Hunduma is an Ethiopian-Australian writer, director, photographer, actor, and poet. She has received the John Hay Lobban Prize from Birkbeck, University of London and has been featured in Dazed and Perfect Magazine. Ruth won the 2022 Roundhouse Film Fund and BFI Short Documentary Fund, releasing two films. Her debut narrative film, A Band Apart, premiered at the London Independent Film Festival. Her debut documentary is titled The Medallion.
