RÉCRÉADOC STREAM
The Récréadoc program is aimed at elementary school children, and introduces them to the documentary genre through both feature-length and short films. This year, discovery is the key word. Because documentary has no defined form, our selection reveals to children how filmmakers play with live action and animation to create ever more original and poetic cinematographic objects, taking them on a journey, and questioning the world around them.
The first stream unveils, from our windows, the flora and fauna that nourish our urban environments, and cohabit with humans to recreate flourishing ecosystems (Mes Voisins Sauvages). In the second stream, four short films take us on an introspective, musical and colorful journey from Lisbon to Madagascar, through Colombia. While some films question the passion that links us to our elders, and the determination of a young sibling on a quest for knowledge through the Colombian mountains (L’Effet de mes rides and El Camino del viento), others reveal the musicality of a city and the colors that tint the discovery of the Madagascar culture (Lisboa Orchestra and Madagascar, carnet de voyage).
Followed by a time of discussion with the filmmaker or a programmer,, these streams also give each child a chance to speak up, and to get used to sharing his or her perceptions, emotions and questions. The screenings are accompanied by educational pamphlets to explore the documentary genre in greater depth, and to help teachers extend the discussion of films seen in class.
