1874, the Birth of Impressionism - 1874, la naissance de l’impressionnisme
Réalisation
Julien JOHAN, Hugues NANCY
In 1874, in the Paris studio of the photographer Nadar, some thirty painters were preparing to present over one hundred and fifty of their works to the public. Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Morisot, Degas, Sisley, and Pissarro had freed themselves from academicism, embraced new models and dared to exhibit independently. Impressionism was born.

Hugues NANCY
Hugues Nancy has written and directed numerous documentaries for public service channels. Before delving with Julien Johan into these years which saw the birth of Impressionism or into the history of Missak Manouchian and the Red Poster resistance fighters, he completed We the Workers, with Fabien Béziat, for France 2, broadcast in October 2023, in which it traces the history of the workers who shaped the industrial power of France. He also directed Once Upon a Time in Marseille (110’, 2022, France 3), described as “an exceptional document on Marseille, undoubtedly the best ever made” by Télérama.
Hugues Nancy also explored other documentary avenues with Révolution! (2x60’, 2021, France 2), produced with Jacques Malaterre. The French Revolution is filmed there as a documentary filmed during the events of 1789.
