Bon voyage

Réalisation
Karine BIRGÉ

She was 102 years old. At the end of summer 2018, she had decided to leave France and come and die in Belgium. From the sound traces she has preserved, her granddaughter summons a small theater of dolls and objects, bringing together her relatives, friends, Dr Frankenstein and singer Chantal Goya, and re-creates a world around her grandmother, who left in a strange quietude.

Karine Birgé was born in the mists of Lorraine, in a land that still bears the scars of war. As a child, she played along the railroad tracks and in the bunkers, collecting helmets and shells that were still buried, or walked her goat Lola along the main road. She grows up just a little and wanders off to university. She dreams of being a hard rocker. One night she takes a train to Paris. She scoured the bars and restaurants, but behind the counter, not in front, or only sometimes. Another evening she migrated to Belgium to study for a few years at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège. After all that, when she arrived in Brussels, she sold sushi, acted in several shows and made documentaries. Then she formed a gang with Marie Delhaye: the Karyatides company. Together, they create object theater.
