In the late 1970s, Iranian Zahra and Romanian Maria form a close bond while studying medicine together at university of Bucharest. But when Zahra senses a wind of change from her homeland, she quits university and returns to Tehran full of revolutionary aspirations. Separated by both the physical distance and uncertainty of two political regimes on the verge of collapse, the two friends must correspond and report on their daily lives via letters. It is an intimate memoir of people’s struggle for a brighter future and of two people’s unfailing friendship.

Vlad Petri is a Romanian film director, cinematographer and producer. After graduating from Cinematography at the University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest (2004), he undertook a MA degree in Visual and Media Anthropology at Freie University in Berlin (2014). He worked as a cinematographer on different projects in Romania and abroad (Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Albania, Iran, Afghanistan, to name just a few). His selected filmography includes: Where are you Bucharest? (2014- Rotterdam Film Festival / Romanian Gopo Award for Best Debut Film), The deer passed in front of me (2020 - Jihlava Film Festival / Romanian Gopo Award for Best Short Film) and The same dream (2021 - Sarajevo Film Festival - short/ Jury Special Mention at Sarajevo IFF).
