In the Bolivian Altiplano, the inhabitants of the village of Tomave grow quinoa and raise llamas. They dress up, sing and laugh to call for rain, and throw firecrackers and confetti to honor Mother Earth. But agricultural engineers from the city are prowling around the village. With their arms full of agricultural technology and their bags full of modernity, they're determined to rationalize farming practices... a prelude to a strange masquerade.

Claire Second studied fine art in Angoulême, ecology in Montpellier and creative documentary at Lussas in 2016. Driven by her keen interest in the plant world and botany, she explored the scientific film genre in her graduation film, "L'Algue et le Champignon", about the lichens of the Ardèche mountains. After spending a year and a half in the Bolivian Altiplano, she made her first film, "Mascarades", about a community of quinoa farmers.
